Stop Asking for Directions; Start Making Recommendations

Until you have been a supervisor, manager, boss, you may not understand how annoying it is for one of your subordinates or direct reports to continually come to you asking for direction.

While you might think that they appreciate your consideration in asking them how they want work done, what you might not realize is that you are coming off indecisive, unthinking, and even a little bit dependent on the boss.

So, stop it!

Instead- think through the issue, problem, or task, research what needs to be done, consider the options, and go to your boss with your best recommendation.

The more you do this, the more trust you will build with your boss. And the more your boss trusts your judgment, the more he or she will rely on you. And the more he or she relies on you, the more promotable you become.

Even if the boss does not take or modify your recommendation, (there may be some other considerations that you did not know,)  you will learn from the process, and exude your independence while doing it.
