The networks that really work are reciprocal. Period.
What I try to challenge my clients to do when they’re building a network is, “you be the first to help.” Help somebody else. Build a relationship, even if it’s just sending them an article about something that they were interested in –not something about your business, they remember that stuff and it’s not manipulative.
it’s like saying, thinking or feeling, “I want to help people.” The more you help other people, the more help comes back at you.
We all know people who are connectors, they are the ones who enjoy putting two people together for their mutual success. What happens is, John will put Sally and Susie together because he thinks they can help each other in their business, and he gets nothing for it other than making the connection, but Sally and Susie will never forget his initiative in helping them.
It is an overall positive result for all parties involved.
We should never give to get, but when we give, we might get. We shouldn’t anticipate it, but we should be very thankful if and when it does happen.
