The world is moving very fast. So many decisions to make. So little time.
Many of us struggle with decisions, sometimes more than we need to. I’m not talking about the decision of which toothpaste to buy, or which movie to choose. I’m talking about the more difficult decisions that relate to the question of “What is right ?”
One of the best gifts that we have in helping us make the right decision is the gift of understanding WHO we are, which basically says that we know and true to our values. Being clear on our values, many times, can make that ethical decision a non-event. Consider this:
- If your value is integrity, you will return the extra dollar the clerk mistakenly gave you when making change.
- If your value is respect, you will avoid embarrassing a coworker in front of the boss.
- If your value is honesty, you will admit that you broke the kickstand of bicycle you borrowed.
And if you don’t have these values, you may think about these things a few times before deciding. When you are clear on your values, it’s a non-decision.
