So much has been written and said about the value of a “pat on the back.”
It is motivational. It shows acknowledgement. It is praise.
And it confounds me when workers do the reverse. They stab a co-worker in the back. Figuratively.
- They highlight a mistake.
- They point out a weakness.
- They raise themselves up by putting others down.
What they may not realize is that that stab in the back could be career limiting for the “stabber.” No one likes a tattle tale. And even if you think you’re doing it covertly, think again. People recognize it.
So, are you a “back patter” or a “back stabber?” Or are you neither?
If you are neither, make a move to the bright side. If you are a stabber, leave the dark side and make a move to neutral (at minimum) and even toward the friendly “patting side.”
Why does it happen to your back anyway?
